Bitfinex and Tether CTO Faces Deposition in Market Manipulation Case – Here’s the Latest

The chief technology officer of both the popular crypto exchange Bitfinex and the stablecoin operator Tether, Paolo Ardoino, will face a deposition in New York, as part of a case on market manipulation.

The case was filed in October 2019 by crypto investor Donald Pompliano, who claims that Bitfinex and Tether had conspired to manipulate the crypto markets during 2017 and early 2018.

According to documents shared with Forbes, Ardoino was informed of his scheduled deposition on March 30th, 2021. The deposition will be held in New York in seven days, on April 7th.

Additionally, Ardoino will need to provide financial documents from Bitfinex and Tether as part of the proceedings — which may reveal further details around the operations of the entities.

The writ issued against Ardoino also seeks documents spanning from 2014 to 2018, which include Bitfinex’s bank statements and financial transactions, Tether’s corporate resolutions, and management correspondence and decisions.
