Body of missing Israeli woman Shani Gabay found, mayor says: ‘Bitter news’
The body of missing Israeli woman Shani Gabay was found on Saturday in northern Israel, according to Binyamin Regional Council Mayor Yisrael Gantz.
Gantz announced the news in a post on his Facebook page, describing it as “bitter news.”
Gabay, 24, had been missing since June 16, when she was last seen leaving her parent’s home in Ma’ale Adumim, located east of Jerusalem. Hundreds of volunteers had been searching for her since her disappearance.
Police and volunteers had scoured the surrounding area, including fields, forests, and remote caves, in their search for Gabay.
Gantz wrote in his post: “This morning with sadness and sorrow our beloved daughter Shani Gabay’s body was located. Unfortunately, after a difficult and tiring struggle, we were delivered the bitter news. We thank all the people who worked diligently and tediously in painful and hard work in order to find Shani.”
He continued: “Now each of us will need to begin living a new path in life without Shani, however, we will keep her memory and her virtues for eternity.”
The cause of Gabay’s death is still unknown, and the police have not released additional information on the investigation.
