Speaker Johnson: Biden engaging in ‘cover-up’ of role in Hunter business dealings, impeachment probe continues
House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy believes that President Joe Biden and his family are involved in a “cover-up” of the actions of his son, Hunter Biden, in Ukraine and China. McCarthy raised the allegations on Fox News Sunday, after the White House said it would not investigate the specifics of Hunter Biden’s involvement in foreign business dealings.
McCarthy questioned why the White House won’t launch a probe into Hunter Biden’s behavior, suggesting the only explanation is that they’re trying to protect the president and his family from further scrutiny. “I do think the only plausible explanation for not looking into it is the cover-up,” McCarthy said.
The impeachment inquiry into former President Donald Trump is still ongoing in the Senate, and McCarthy said this week that the Bidens should be held to the same standard and investigated. “There’s such a double standard here,” McCarthy said.
The Biden administration has said that they are committed to the highest ethical standards and that the White House is taking steps to ensure that anyone close to the president is not engaged in activities deemed improper. However, McCarthy and other Republicans insist that these steps are insufficient and are calling for a full inquiry into Hunter Biden’s business dealings.
