Israel steps up Gaza offensive as brutality of Hamas attacks laid bare
Israel has stepped up its offensive in Gaza in response to increased rocket attacks from Hamas militants. The Israeli military said it had carried out strikes on more than 300 targets in Gaza overnight, including the homes of Hamas commanders, as well as a twin-tower residential and commercial building that housed foreign media outlets. The Israeli Defense Forces also said that they had targeted a number of military sites, including a rocket launching site and an arms manufacturing complex.
The move comes in response to rocket attacks from Hamas that have increased in recent weeks. The militant group, which controls Gaza, has fired more than 700 rockets towards Israel since May 10th, with many of them landing in populated areas.
The latest violence has put a spotlight on the brutality of Hamas’ attacks, which have killed more than 200 people, including dozens of civilians, in recent weeks. The UN has called for an immediate de-escalation and urged all sides to exercise restraint.
