Gavin Newsom’s plan for replacing Dianne Feinstein is ‘insulting’ to Black women, California Dem says
California state Senator Melissa Hurtado (D) has criticized Gavin Newsom’s plan to select either Secretary of State Alex Padilla or California Secretary of State Katie Hill to replace Senator Dianne Feinstein upon her retirement, calling it “insulting” to Black women. Newsom expressed that both Padilla and Hill are “well-qualified” people, but African-American organizations have come out in favor of selecting a Black woman to replace Feinstein, arguing that it would create better diversity in the Senate. Hurtado has asked the governor to provide a list of Black women who have been vetted for the role.
