Poorer areas see the bulk of clean energy funds from Biden’s landmark climate law

Under President Joe Biden’s latest climate law, investments in clean energy programs are expected to be focused primarily on communities and individuals in lower-income and underserved areas. The law, the American Jobs Plan, seeks to make a dent in poverty and energy poverty, which disproportionately impacts people of color. Some of the energy programs the Biden Administration plans to prioritize include weatherization, electric grid upgrades, energy efficiency improvements, and workforce training for clean energy jobs. Funding will also be allocated to renewable energy projects in these areas to help create jobs, reduce energy costs and create healthier, greener communities. In addition, the law will provide funding for infrastructure upgrades, such as improved public transportation services, to help decrease emissions from transportation.
