UN Security Council adopts resolution calling for urgent ‘humanitarian pauses and corridors’ in Gaza
On August 2, 2019, the United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2452, calling for an urgent humanitarian pause and corridors in the Gaza Strip in order to provide unimpeded access for the delivery of essential humanitarian assistance. The resolution was sponsored by Indonesian and Kuwaiti delegations, both non-permanent members of the Council. It also expressed its intention to explore ways to improve the economic and humanitarian situation in Gaza while fully respecting Israel’s security. The resolution further called on all parties in the region to refrain from any further action that could exacerbate the situation.
