Dubai police seize over $1 billion of captagon drug smuggled inside furniture
The Dubai Police have confiscated $1 billion worth of captagon, a type of illicit synthetic drug, which smugglers attempted to conceal in shipments of furniture. The drug bust is the largest in recent history.
The narcotics were hidden inside the home and office furniture that was brought into the Emirate from Lebanon, Chief of State Security Major-General Khamis al-Muhairi revealed.
He stated that the operation, which was conducted by the Dubai Police in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior’s Anti-Narcotics and Special Investigation Unit, was part of a larger regional operation to target organized crime.
The police also seized a large quantity of other illicit drugs, including hashish and cocaine, during the operation.
The seizure of the drugs follows Dubai Police’s announcement last year that it had seized over eight tons of Captagon, mainly from Lebanon, as part of an international narcotics’ operation.
