Ocean Explorer: Attempts to free cruise ship stuck in Greenland fail

Explorers attempting to free the cruise ship stuck in the icy waters off Greenland have been unsuccessful. reScue teams had attached a series of large chains and steel cables to the 142-meter-long vessel, the MS Viking SGHT Sky, in an effort to free it, but the crews’ calculations weren’t enough to move the ship.

The Sky boat became stuck on June 15 and has been trapped in the ice ever since. Attempts have been made to free the ship, but no progress has been made. Some of the supplies the crew had brought on board have been delivered to the ship, but the crew has been unable to leave the area due to the frozen waters.

Experts believe that if all efforts fail, the only way to remove the boat would be to try and wait out the summer and see if the ice melts enough for the ship to break free.

The MS Viking SGHT Sky is carrying 132 passengers and 56 crew. Thankfully, no one has been hurt. The travelers are said to be in good spirits and are being taken care of by the crew, who has been providing them with meals and other necessary items.
