New Mexico Republican legislators call for Dem Gov. Grisham’s impeachment after gun order: ‘She’s rogue’
Several Republican legislators in New Mexico have called on Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham to be impeached over her executive order that expands gun background checks in the state.
The order requires background checks for all gun sales, even private transactions, and was announced in response to a recent mass shooting in the state.
State Sen. Mark Moores, one of the leaders of the impeachment effort, argued that the governor had overstepped her authority. He told reporters, “The governor has decided to be rogue, deciding to.… unilaterally impose her own policies, regulations outside of the law and that’s not acceptable.”
The governor’s office has defended the order as being constitutional and her administration is expected to challenge any attempts at impeachment.
